B.B. Zeitlyn Psychotherapy |Boarding School Syndrome | 4th June 2016
In her recently published and already much acclaimed book, Professor Schaverien has identified a cluster of symptoms and behaviours which she proposes be classified as ‘Boarding School Syndrome’. Children sent to boarding school at an early age suffer the sudden and irrevocable loss of their primary attachments; for many this constitutes a significant trauma.
The talk will raise points based on case material from the book. Illustrated with pictures made in analysis it will give a sense of the depth of trauma that is often missed when a client mentions they attended a boarding school.
There will also be time for reflection on thoughts raised by this. Discussion will include attention to material brought by the participants. The aim is to develop an understanding of the presentation of this syndrome in psychotherapy.
